India, US to focus on mkt access, reducing tariff, non-tariff barriers: MoS

India and the US are planning to negotiate a trade agreement and both countries will focus on increasing market access, reducing import duty and non-tariff barriers, and enhancing supply chain integration, Parliament was informed on March 11, 2025.

During the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Washington last month, India and the US announced their commitment to more than double the two-way commerce to $500 billion by 2030 and negotiate the first tranche of a mutually beneficial, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) by fall of 2025.

At present, India is a member of 13 FTAs and 9 PTAs apart from the negotiations with the EU, the UK, and Oman.

Vietnam’s textile and garment exports show strong growth

Vietnam earned nearly 3.2 billion USD from textile and garment exports in the first two months of this year, up 1.8% from the same period last year.

Many enterprises have already secured orders until the second quarter, and some even until the third quarter. Corporation 28’s exports of textile and garment rose 10% and 7% respectively.

Experts predict Vietnam’s textile and garment exports will continue to grow thanks to  the recovery of key markets such as the US, Europe, and Japan.

"As the global economy recovers, the demand for textiles and garments is  increasing. Digital transformation, green transition, and diversification of raw material sources have also enhanced the competitiveness and export value of Vietnamese textile and garment products," said economist Ngo Minh Hai.

Vietnam targets 48 billion USD in textile and garment export revenue this year.
