Sub: Inputs on Draft Standards National Action Plan (SNAP) 2022 Document

Dear Member,

This is to inform you that BIS had framed the Standards National Action Plan (SNAP) in the year 2019, proposing a set of actions that would enable BIS to fulfil its mandate as the National Standards Body and deliver standards according to the market needs in an efficient and timely manner. SNAP 2019 had an implementation timeframe of 3 years which ended in 2022 following which framing of the next version of SNAP was taken up.

Latest version of SNAP has been developed through rigorous and coordinated efforts of more than 1000 stakeholders from the industry, government, scientific and R&D institutions, academia, consumer groups and civil society organizations and presents the standardization vision of a broad cross-section of stakeholders. Along with this an in-depth study of the current socio-economic perspective of the country was carried through which various economic and social sector priorities were determined that would form the basis for determining the standardization priorities.

The recommendations emanating from stakeholder consultations on key areas/subjects of standardization to be taken up in the next five years and recommendations on governance, standardization eco-system, BIS standardization processes as well as on other general aspects of standardization has formulated the latest draft version of SNAP 2022.

We are pleased to inform you that, the draft SNAP 2022 document incorporating above features and the list of key standardization areas/subjects and their priorities is now available for comments. The draft SNAP 2022 document can be accessed through link mentioned below:
