TO:  THE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL

Dear Members,

Sub: Govt. of India's initiative "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign under "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" (AKAM).

You may be aware that the Government of India has taken initiative "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign under "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" (AKAM). The idea behind the initiative is to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of the people and promote awareness about our national flag. For a successful and participatory programme, it is envisaged that more than l0 crore Indian household covering a significant portion of India's population, will hoist the flag during the 'Independence Week' in August 2022. It would encourage citizens to 'bring the Flag home' in the 75 year of India's Independence. Har Ghar Tiranga would foster a 'personal connect' to the Tricolour among Indians and motivate them to commit themselves to nation building.

The Government is taking various steps to generate the demand and awareness building by (a) tie up with radio, TV broadcasters and OTT platforms to ensure maximum eyeballs for the programme, (b) Maximum participation of media for launch and finale events, (c) social media campaign with celebrities, (d) leverage announcement systems at stations, airports, in flights, in trains, etc, (e) Digital screens, hoardings, posters etc to share interesting nuggets about the flag alongside information about Har Ghar Tiranga website etc.

It is to mention that the Ministry of Home Affairs has on 30th December 2021 made appropriate amendment to the Flag code of India 2002 (the National Flag shall be made of hand spun and hand woven or machine made, cotton, polyester, wool, silk khadi bunting). The National Flag can now be made from varied materials. This will facilitate the manufacturing of the National Flags on a much larger scale, so that more citizens can fly the Tricolour.

A meeting under the chairmanship of Secretary (T) was held on 26th May 2022 with the associations/councils to discuss to engage with manufacturers and trade bodies to facilitate manufacturing of flags of the dimension of 6"x9," 16"x24" and 20"x30." In the meeting, trade associations agreed to manufacture 10 crore flags for "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign.

In view of the above programme, Members of the Council are urged to utilities opportunity manufacturing of the National Flags for sale as the Government of India is taking various steps to generate demand across the length and breadth of the country in order to fully achieve the objectives of the "Har Ghar  Tiranga" campaign.

Thanking you.

Yours sincerely,

S. BALARAJU
